Sydney Thunder are proud to announce Plate It Forward as their Official Social Impact Partner for the next two seasons, building on a successful partnership that began last season.
Thunder and Plate It Forward expand partnership to serve up positive change
The expanded partnership was announced at Thunder’s WBBL Season Launch event, held at Plate It Forward’s Kyiv Social restaurant, where players, sponsors and staff gathered to celebrate the upcoming season.
Founded in 2020 by Shaun Christie-David, the proud son of Sri Lankan immigrants who grew up in Western Sydney, Plate It Forward is a social enterprise dedicated to creating meaningful and sustainable change through food, employment and community connection.
To date, Plate It Forward has provided more than one million meals to people experiencing food insecurity in Sydney and abroad, while creating employment opportunities for those who face barriers to the workforce, including refugees, people seeking asylum and people living with disabilities.

As part of the club’s Season Launch event, Thunder also unveiled their goal of providing 5,000 meals to underprivileged communities across Western Sydney this season, building on the 627 meals delivered last summer. Every $2 donated helps provide a meal to someone in need.
Sydney Thunder General Manager, Trent Copeland, said:
"We’re incredibly proud to continue our partnership with Plate It Forward. Shaun and his team have really created something special and share our passion for making a real difference in the communities we represent.
“At Thunder, we believe our impact extends well beyond the cricket field, and setting a goal of providing 5,000 meals this season is a fantastic opportunity to give back to those who need it most."
Plate It Forward Founder and CEO Shaun Christie-David said:
"To partner with Sydney Thunder and have these elite players here at our restaurant is a beautiful thing.
“So many of our staff love cricket and they come from cricket backgrounds. For them to see the players that they know and love out there cooking for their communities, driving change, is an incredible experience.
"Our goal this year is to supply 600,000 meals across the world. We're spreading across the country and even to other nations – we're in Sri Lanka doing 2,700 meals a day there in partnership with Dilmah.
"We can't wait to see what we can achieve with the Sydney Thunder.”
