BLOCKBUSTER SYDNEY SMASH TO BRING HOME WBBL|12 REGULAR SEASON

Sydney Thunder will cap off the Weber WBBL|12 regular season with a home Sydney Smash under lights, as one of 10 matches confirmed in today's schedule release.

The hotly anticipated Smash against the Sydney Sixers on Saturday, November 28 will be the last of Thunder’s four WBBL|12 home matches, with all to be played at its Drummoyne Oval stronghold.

The schedule news follows the re-signing of Head Coach Lisa Keightley for two seasons last month, making her the longest serving head coach in WBBL Thunder history.

Keightley’s squad begins its campaign on Thursday, October 29, when Thunder take on Melbourne Renegades at Junction Oval as part of a double-header season opener.

Fans’ first chance to pack out the hill at Drummoyne Oval will be on Sunday, November 1 when we face Brisbane Heat, with another home match just four days later against Perth Scorchers.

The game's biggest rivalry will see the Sixers host the first Sydney Smash match on Sunday, November 8 at North Sydney Oval.

The squad will travel to Perth for a midweek Remembrance Day clash against the Scorchers on Wednesday, November 11 before heading back home for a Monday night clash against the Melbourne Stars on November 16.

Thunder are on the road for the next three matches facing the Brisbane Heat (Thursday, November 19), Hobart Hurricanes (Saturday, November 21) and Adelaide Strikers on Thursday, November 26 for a neutral-venue home fixture.

The side will wrap up its regular season with its most anticipated match, returning home to host the Sixers in the second Sydney Smash under lights on Saturday November 28 from 7:10pm AEDT, a potential curtain raiser to the Finals.

Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland said the season-ending clash against the Sixers shapes as the most anticipated derby yet.

“This season is truly shaping up to be one of our biggest campaigns yet - re-signing elite Head Coach Lisa Keightley as well as returning Australian superstars from the T20 World Cup Pheobe Litchfield and Georgia Voll.

“We’re thrilled to once again be hosting four matches at Drummoyne Oval. Our members and fans love to pack out the hill every year and we can’t wait to see even more of you again this year.

“With more weekend matches, more prime-time broadcast slots and neutral fixtures remaining in Sydney, there are even more opportunities for our members and fans to get behind the team.

“Our Saturday night prime-time home Sydney Smash is going to be an awesome way to cap off the season. Fans will have the best opportunity to watch what is no doubt be the match of the tournament on the eve of the WBBL Finals.

“We want to be back in finals this year and we need everyone of our members and fans to get behind the players in the world’s best women’s competition to get us there.”
