Green and Knight earn top honors at Cricket NSW Awards Night

Chris Green and Heather Knight have been crowned Sydney Thunder’s BBL and WBBL players of the season at the 24th Annual Cricket NSW Awards.

Thunder all-rounder Chris Green claimed his second Mike Hussey Medal following another consistent season, contributing with both bat and ball. His highlight performance came in Thunder’s final home game of the season where he hit three sixes in as many balls, securing the victory against the Melbourne Renegades.

Meanwhile, Heather Knight secured her second consecutive Alex Blackwell Medal and third overall, further underlining her impact in the lime green.

Retained by Thunder in the first round of the Draft, the former England captain raked in 201 runs during WBBL|11. Her top performance came from a high score of 65 runs against the Sixers and averaged 28.71 across the season.

Knight was also celebrated for reaching the milestone of 100 WBBL matches during WBBL|11.

Sydney Thunder General Manager, Trent Copeland congratulated the club’s award winners.

“Heather and Chris are incredibly deserving recipients of these awards and, in a season that didn’t deliver the results we wanted as teams, they stood out for their professionalism and leadership.

“Heather made an immediate impact playing a full season back in lime green after being retained through the Draft. She continued to carry herself around the group, combining world-class experience with a genuine willingness to invest in our younger players. Reaching the milestone of 100 WBBL matches during the season was a fitting reflection of the career she’s built, and we’re proud she did that as a Thunder player.

“Chris continues to be a model of consistency and competitiveness for our club. Even in a challenging BBL campaign, he found ways to influence games with both bat and ball, none more memorable than his match-winning performance at home against the Renegades. He sets the standard with his preparation, attitude and commitment to the Thunder, and this recognition is a testament to the value he brings to our program year after year.”

Sydney Thunder’s Charlie Anderson earned recognition for making his Sheffield Shield debut, while Ryan Hadley and Blake Nikitaras were also acknowledged following their One Day Cup call-ups.
