Ryan Hadley locked in for two more seasons

Fresh off making his Big Bash debut, Ryan Hadley has re-signed with Sydney Thunder for a further two seasons, until the end of KFC BBL|17.

The Blacktown-born fast bowler got his first taste of BBL action this season, playing four games with a best performance of 2/37 in Thunder’s win over the Melbourne Renegades.

A junior product of Rooty Hill RSL Cricket Club in the heart of Western Sydney, Hadley’s rise through the pathway was highlighted in 2017 when he earned selection in Australia’s squad for the 2018 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup.

More recently, he continued that trajectory with selection in the Australia A side that defeated England’s Lions by an innings and 127 runs.

“Being able to make my debut in Canberra was really exciting,” Hadley said.

“I was sort of thrown in the deep end, bit of a last-minute inclusion in the side, but I think I held my own and hopefully can contribute to a few more wins over the next two seasons for Thunder.

“We have a really great group and I'm really excited to represent Western Sydney at ENGIE Stadium and see all the fans out there for the next couple of years. We’re building something really great and Trent Copeland is doing great work.

“It’s great to see the fans roll out year-on-year despite the results but you know a couple of close games and small moments that didn’t go our way will change next year and we’ll be back to our best, so I'm really excited for what’s to come.”

General Manager Trent Copeland praised Hadley’s development over the last two years that earned him his BBL debut.

“We’re extremely excited to have Hads with us for another two years.

“Not only has he shined in New South Wales cricket with the ball but he’s also genuinely a great character among the playing group.

“He's a Western Sydney local who is playing for a Western Sydney club against some of the best T20 cricketers in the world – that to me is something very special and we can’t wait to see what next season holds for Hads.”
