Thunder name final squad for KFC BBL15

Cameron Bancroft has been ruled out after fracturing his thumb at training today. Ollie Davies comes into the squad to replace him.  

Blake Nikitaras has received the call up to replace David Willey, after he completed his stint with Thunder and returned home. Aidan O’Connor also returns to potentially make his BBL debut, replacing Charlie Anderson.  

Captain David Warner has once again been named in the squad despite not playing on Monday night. Warner, still nursing a knee injury, is working with Thunder’s medical staff to ensure he’s ready for the final game of the season.  

After discussions with Shadab Khan and his management, he will not return to the squad following the completion of the Pakistan's T20 International Series against Sri Lanka. We thank Shadab for his contribution to Sydney Thunder this season and wish him all the best in the upcoming World Cup. 

General Manager Trent Copeland said: “It’s unfortunate Shadab isn’t returning. However, with no chance of finals and only one game remaining, common sense suggests restricting travel from the subcontinent to Sydney with the T20 World Cup in a week's time. We’ve really valued his contribution and hope to see him back in Thunder colours in the future.

“There’s no hiding from the fact this season has been disappointing, but tomorrow night gives our players and fans a chance to finish on a high. Back-to-back wins and getting the better of the pink team in the Sydney Smash would be the perfect way to close out the campaign.”
