Sydney Thunder complete WBBL|11 squad with exciting young gun Lucy Finn

Sydney Thunder have completed its Weber WBBL|11 squad with the signing of young gun Lucy Finn.

The 18-year-old allrounder has already got international experience under her belt after earning a spot in the Australian women’s U19’s tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year.

Finn backed up a breakout season with an outstanding U19 National Championships campaign in 2024, playing a key role for the NSW Metro side. She notched her maiden U19 century with a commanding 109 off 96 balls against Victoria Country.

Her form carried into NSW Premier Cricket with St George-Sutherland Cricket Club, where she finished among the top 10 run scorers in the Sydney First Grade competition, while also claiming 12 wickets with the ball.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Thunder squad this season,” Lucy said.

“I was lucky enough to play under Lisa in the Australian U19s squad in Sri Lanka, and I’m really grateful to have the chance to keep learning from her at this next level.

“It’s pretty surreal to think I’ll be playing alongside stars like Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll who’ve just come back from a World Cup. I’ve always dreamed of sharing the field with players of that calibre, and now I can’t wait to do it in the lime green and represent the Thunder Nation.”

Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland has kept a close eye on Finn and said her impressive performances during the Spring Challenge sealed his decision.

“Lucy’s development over the past two seasons has been really exciting to watch,” said Copeland.

"Lucy is so deserving of this chance. Lisa Keightley saw up close on the Australian u/19 tour of Sri Lanka just what Lucy is capable of with both bat and ball. What I was looking specifically at in Spring Challenge wasn't necessarily wickets or player of the match performances, what I saw was that unique combination of height, bounce, accuracy and a calm presence in some big moments.

Lucy adds a lot to our Thunder group that is primed to lift that trophy come middle of December."

Thunder kick off their WBBL|11 campaign against the Hobart Hurricanes on November 9 and Melbourne Renegades on November 11, before returning home to Drummoyne Oval for a blockbuster Sydney Smash on November 15. Click here to grab your tickets!
