Thunder fall to Canes' in WBBL10 opener

Phoebe Litchfield led with a resilient half-century (51) on captaincy debut, but it wasn’t enough to stop Sydney Thunder from falling to the Hobart Hurricanes in their opening match of WBBL's tenth season.

Thunder’s middle order couldn’t forge the partnerships needed in their chase of Hobart's 141, ultimately falling 31 runs short.

Sydney Thunder Head Coach Lisa Keightley said:

“I thought we did a good job with the ball, keeping things under control at most stages, even when the opposition put together some solid partnerships.

“At the halfway point, we’d managed to keep them under 150, which was a strong effort on our end. Early wickets put us under pressure, but we were able to hold them to about seven-and-a-half an over, keeping it close.

“Looking ahead, we’ll focus on building some solid partnerships. If we can put together a few key partnerships, it will allow us to apply more pressure than we managed to today, setting us up nicely moving forward.

“Our goal now is to get some solid runs on the board to give us a better position for the next game.”
