Trent Copeland appointed Thunder GM

Trent Copeland made a huge impact on cricket as a player and now the former Australian, NSW and Sydney Thunder fast bowler is set to make his mark off the field after he was appointed as General Manager of Sydney Thunder.

Copeland, who is one of the key voices of the summer of cricket through commentary roles on Channel 7, has moved from his CNSW role as Strategy and Growth Manager, to become Thunder’s GM.

In the reshaped club structures, the General Managers, will now lead the way, replacing the former Head of Club roles.

Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon said the changes had been made to strongly position Cricket NSW, and Sydney Thunder, to meet the demands of a dynamic domestic sport and global cricket landscape.

“These changes have been made as we strive to achieve our ambitious goals and operate as effectively and efficiently as possible,” Germon said.

“Unfortunately, as part of this process, Chris Botherway and Andrew Gilchrist have left the organisation. Both Chris and Andrew are highly regarded and respected members of our family and have made significant contributions to CNSW. We wish them well in the future.

“Trent Copeland has impressed greatly in his most recent role at Cricket NSW. He is an extremely strong strategic thinker, an excellent communicator and a great leader of people.

“While Trent embraces this new role, he will continue to fulfil his broadcast commitments with our blessing.”

Copeland, who hails from Western NSW, said he was excited by the opportunity to lead such a community-based club.

“Sydney Thunder is a club with a rich connection to their community and an enormous opportunity to continue to engage with the Western Sydney and the South Asian diaspora,” Copeland said.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the players and staff to continue to strive to improve our performances on the field and connect with our wonderful members and fans off the field.

“The WBBL and BBL are at such exciting stages and present great opportunities to simultaneously help grow the game of cricket and inspire people to connect with Sydney Thunder.”

Copeland will begin in the new role immediately.
