Sydney Thunder qualified for the WBBL09 Finals despite suffering defeat at the hands of their cross-town rivals on a bumper day at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The Sydney Sixers took the spoils at the end of the Stadium Series after a disciplined bowling display restricted the Thunder to 123 all out, a total they chased down within 17.3 overs to win by nine wickets.
Heather Knight’s side had already completed qualification for the Finals series however, after Adelaide Strikers’ thumping win over Hobart Hurricanes earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, one of the biggest success stories of the tournament to date, Chamari Athapathuthu, enjoyed another fine day, notching up her 50th WBBL appearance and passing 1,000 runs in the competition during her knock of 26.
Thunder will now travel to Perth to face Brisbane Heat in The Eliminator on Tuesday, with the winner facing off against the Scorchers on the following day for a chance to play the Strikers in the final next Saturday.
