Students delivered Thunder Literacy Program at Cabramatta West Public School

Students from Westfields Sports High School have teamed up with Sydney Thunder to deliver the Thunder Literacy Program to students at Cabramatta West Public School.

Delivered to primary schools across the Thunder Nation, the Thunder Literacy Program exists to promote the importance of reading and to create a life-long love learning for young girls and boys.

The event featured a range of reading sessions and cricket activities, where the Westfields Sports High School students were tasked with coordinating and delivering the session to their younger peers.

The visit to Cabramatta West Public School formed part of the practical component of the Thunder Leadership Program for these students. Having participated in the leadership development program, the high school students are encouraged to pay it forward and give back to the local community.

According to Daniel Rixon, Cricket Convener at Westfields Sports High School, the leadership opportunities are paramount to the personal development of the students.

"The Westfields Sports High Cricket Program prides itself on developing the holistic cricketer allowing players to pursue various avenues both on and off the field,” Rixon said.

“As such, it is vital our athletes portray leadership, respect and due diligence to meet the required capabilities and thrive in the challenges they meet.

“It is this added expectation and responsibility placed on our developing men and women that has our young cricketers making sensational progress both on and off the field.

“It is important this attitude and respect for others is echoed outside of the school in order to not only represent the school but become proud representatives of their districts and local areas.

“In turn, we hope they are able to positively influence those around them to make a stronger, more resilient youth of today.”

The Thunder Leadership Program has been delivered to eight schools across the Thunder Nation during Term 3, with over 150 students involved.

The Thunder Leadership Program exists to develop and empower young leaders across the Thunder Nation.
