13-player squad announced to face Renegades and Sixers

Sydney Thunder has named a 13-player squad for the opening weekend of the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League to face the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers at North Sydney Oval.

Thunder Captain Alex Blackwell, who helped Australia to retain the Women's Ashes in November, is excited for the team to be back together for WBBLI03.

“It is a wonderful squad with many of the same faces and a couple of new ones,” said Alex Blackwell

“Just starting to talk about how we want this season to progress, and what we’re all about is really exciting.”

Hannah Darlington and Rachel Trenaman are two of Thunders youngest recruits, both signing their first Women’s Big Bash League contract this season.

“It’s exciting to see a progression from the Thunder Academy with Hannah Darlington moving up into the full-blown Thunder squad,” said Blackwell.

“With Rachel, the fact that she’s from country NSW like I am is great and I would love to see her progress.”

New Zealand wicket-keeper Rachel Priest has also signed on with the Thunder this season, and joins Stafanie Taylor and Harmanpreet Kaur as the Thunder’s third overseas player.

“This season we’re welcoming Rachel Priest into the fold from the Renegades, and also the New Zealand White Ferns,” said Blackwell

“I think she will bring a lot of experience and an aggressive style of cricket.”
