Thunder around the world wrap up

Sydney Thunder captain Shane Watson has earned Player of the Match honours for the second time in as many games after another strong performance in the Pakistan Super League.

Watson scored 61 from 40 deliveries, including 11 boundaries, to power the Quetta Gladiators to a third consecutive victory.

The 37-year-old was named Player of the Match in his previous game after scoring an unbeaten 81 from 55 deliveries.

Leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed was efficient with the ball for the Gladiators, recording figures of 1/22 from his four overs.

In the Caribbean, Joe Root helped England make their highest successful run chase in ODI cricket to record a six-wicket victory over the West Indies.

Root’s brilliant century also saw him become the quickest England batsman to reach 5,000 ODI runs.

The second fixture of the five-match ODI series begins on Saturday, ahead of a three-match T20 series.

The three-match series begins in Perth on Friday, ahead of matches in Adelaide and Melbourne.

Usman Khawaja is set to line up for Australia when the T20 series against India begins this weekend, while Thunder teammates could go head to head when the Sheffield Shield resumes on Saturday.
