Funds raised by the Thunder Nation have given disadvantaged students in Nepal the opportunity to finish school.
All proceeds of the HomeWorld 50-50 Charity Raffle during Sydney Thunder’s fixture against the Brisbane Heat at Sydney Showground Stadium have been donated to the Centre for Learning and Children’s Rights (CLCR) to help fund scholarships for students from disadvantaged communities to complete their tertiary education.
CLCR is an Australian not-for-profit organisation that delivers educational and humanitarian projects in Nepal, including the Heartland Academy.
CLCR initiated the Heartland Academy more than 10 years ago and this has been the focus for CEO and founder, Patrick Price.
“Heartland has put the funds raised via the 50-50 Charity Raffle to good use, thus far supporting upwards of 20 new students with scholarships across streams such as Science Research, Management of Business and Education/Teacher Training,” said CLCR CEO and Founder Patrick Price.
“The majority of our students are female and hail from the Dalit caste, a section of Nepal’s population that historically has been marginalised and lived with extreme poverty. A scholarship education will turn this around and we are proud to partner with Sydney Thunder to be agents of change for the underprivileged of Nepal.”
Below is a photo of a newly enrolled scholarship recipient receiving her Heartland Academy COVID-19 relief pack.
“Each pack contains a range of stationery materials, exercise books, a soccer ball, note pads and hand sanitiser,” said Price.
“We will do another round of relief packs towards the end of January 2021 in which we aim to include the recently donated Sydney Thunder pencil cases.”
Sydney Thunder is proud to continue to provide support to those in need across our Thunder Nation, which extends to our overseas communities.
The full 59-match WBBL season begins on Sunday 25 October, with Thunder taking on crosstown rivals the Sydney Sixers at North Sydney Oval on the opening day of the tournament.
Members of the Thunder Nation will get free entry to crowd-friendly Thunder WBBL|06 matches.
