Registrations now open for Junior Super Clinic, Coaching Session and Mental Health Workshop

Sydney Thunder stars Chris Green and Lauren Smith will visit Griffith in April in support of the local cricket community.

This initiative is supported by the Cricket NSW Foundation, the charitable arm of Cricket NSW which exists to inspire people to play and love cricket.

All-rounders Green and Smith will be joined by Cricket NSW scholarship coach Hannah Trethewy in running clinics for girls and boys, leading a course for coaches, participating in a mental health workshop in conjunction with local mental health professionals and attending a presentation night.

The Cricket NSW group will arrive in Griffith on Thursday 8 April and lead a course that afternoon for local cricket coaches at Griffith Exies Sports Club Sports Field before the mental health workshop for anyone in the local sports community (ages 18+) at Exies Sports Club.

Both events are free but numbers are capped. Registration can be made here for the coach workshop and here for the mental health workshop.

The next day, Friday 9 April, will see up to 250 youngsters aged between 5-15 take part in a free Sydney Thunder Junior Super Clinic at Exies Sports Club Sports Field from 3:00 – 4:30pm. Registrations for the Junior Super Clinic can be found here.

That evening, Green and Smith will be special guests at the Griffith District Cricket Association presentation night, where they will present awards and mingle with players, volunteers and their families.

Cricket NSW Cricket Manager – Murrumbidgee, Kelly Meddings, said the visit was a huge boost for the local sports community.

“Cricket NSW and the Sydney Thunder are great supporters of regional NSW and this visit really is a ‘whole of cricket’ showcase with clinics for kids and coaches, a mental health workshop and a chance for local cricketers to meet Chris and Lauren,” Meddings said.

“Our purpose is to inspire people to play and love cricket and all of these activities will give the local Griffith community an opportunity to do that.”

Two local Riverina cricket clubs – Brocklesby Burrumbuttock CC and Rand CC in Albury will also receive a visit and a net session from the Thunder stars as winners of HomeWorld Helper Grants.

These grants will provide local clubs with much-needed financial assistance to foster home-grown talent where it all begins.

This year, six clubs from across the Thunder Nation have been successful in receiving these grants, including the two clubs from the Murray region securing $1,000 to go towards developing junior cricket.

Rand CC will be using the funds to provide portable shades, equipment and uniforms for Junior cricketers, while Brocklesbury Burrumbuttock will use the funds for portable shades for their junior cricketers, parents and scorers.
