A number of Sydney Thunder stars are set feature in the opening round of the Marsh One-Day Cup this weekend.
Matthew Gilkes, Nathan McAndrew, Arjun Nair and Daniel Sams have been named in the NSW Blues squad.
The Blues begin their Marsh One-Day Cup campaign on 22 September against Queensland followed by South Australia on 26 September, both at Allan Border Field.
McAndrew and Nair have been selected from outside the Blues contracted squad.
Head Coach Phil Jaques said the pair had earned their selections through strong performances in the Blues pre-season trials.
In a practice match in Maroochydore on Monday, off-spinner Nair (4/36) and seamer McAndrew (3/54) both impressed with the ball, while McAndrew also made a quick-fire 45 not out.
Callum Ferguson’s Redbacks notched a 62-run practice match win on Wednesday, less than a week out from South Australia’s opener against Queensland on Tuesday 24 September.
Ferguson, who made two centuries in last year’s Cup, opened the batting with Jake Weatherald.
Gurinder Sandhu has also been named in Tasmania’s squad of 14 for the Tigers' opening two matches to be played in Perth next week.
This will be Sandhu’s second season in Tasmania, after crossing from NSW in 2018.
Sydney Thunder is set to open its ninth KFC Big Bash League campaign against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on 17 December, before playing its first game in Sydney on 2 January.
