Sydney Thunder's Tahlia Wilson said she's unphased by the prospect of a large contingent of supporters attending Wollongong's North Dalton Park to cheer her on when she plays against the Adelaide Strikers in Wednesday's Rebel Women's Big Bash League match.
The 20-year-old, who made her mark by scoring an unconquered 47 from only 39 deliveries in her recent WBBL debut for Thunder against the Perth Scorchers, is a proud – and popular – product of the Illawarra region.
However, Wilson dismissed the notion that she risked being burdened by the weight of expectation; saying she'd embrace the match as yet another opportunity to let everyone see how much she enjoys playing.
"I don't think it's added expectation," Wilson said of the hometown support. "It's more added value knowing your friends and family are there [and] want to come and watch you; who want to support you all the way through from when you were a little kid to now.
"There's no added expectation there, just enjoyment to play in front of them."
Wilson conceded her securing a berth in Thunder’s squad was the result of dedication, acknowledging the amount of time she'd sacrificed over the years to realise her dream.
"It's taken a lot of hard work," she said. "Obviously a lot of time spent with coaches; numerous balls faced; numerous balls thrown and caught. That, as well as just enjoying what you're doing."
Saskia Horley and Kate Peterson have been omitted from the 13-player squad.
Thunder play the Strikers at North Dalton Park on Wednesday 20 November. The match will be streamed live on cricket.com.au and Kayo, with radio coverage from ABC Grandstand.
