Trenaman returns after missing the opening rounds to focus on HSC exams

Sydney Thunder captain Rachael Haynes will miss Sunday's Rebel Women's Big Bash League match against the Perth Scorchers in Adelaide because of a foot infection.

Thunder coach Trevor Griffin said while her absence was a blow, he was hopeful Haynes would be cleared in time to play against the Scorchers at Perth's iconic WACA Ground on Tuesday.

"Rachael is obviously an important player for us," said Griffin. "Not just in terms of her cricket skills, but in the way she has led the team this year as well.

"Losing someone of her ability would impact any team, but our squad is in a great place. I know we'll pull together and be ready to go again on Sunday."

Talented 16-year-old Kate Peterson, who was ordered to rest last weekend after being concussed in grade cricket when the ball hit her helmet, returns to the squad in place of Haynes.

"Kate has come through all the testings," said Griffin. "She's trained very well and is giving everybody in the squad real competition for a place in the starting XI."

While Rachel Trenaman makes a welcome return after missing the opening rounds of the WBBL to focus on her Higher School Certificate exams, one of Sydney Thunder's other talented teens - Phoebe Litchfield - won't travel with the squad to Adelaide and Perth.

Griffin said Litchfield - who was named Player of the Match in only her second WBBL game -will remain at home to concentrate on her Year 10 exams.

"Sydney Thunder has said all along that Phoebe's education is a priority, and just as we supported Rachel [Trenaman] as she focussed on her HSC, we're doing the same for Phoebe," he said.

Despite the changes to the top-of-the-table team, Griffin said each of his players were motivated and ready to take on the Scorchers.

"The girls have had a great week, we're in a good place and great shape," he said. "We're looking forward to this next game after a good win over the Hurricanes."

Thunder play the Scorchers at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide on Sunday 10 November (10:30am AEDT) and then take on the Scorchers at Perth's WACA Ground on Tuesday 12 November 12 (8:30pm AEDT).

Both matches will be streamed live on cricket.com.au and Kayo.
