Sydney Thunder’s preparation for the upcoming Rebel Women’s Big Bash League season stepped up a notch on Wednesday night when it took on the Sydney Sixers in a practice match at North Sydney Oval.
Hannah Darlington captained the side, which included a mix of new and familiar faces.
The 18-year-old is yet to make her Thunder debut however is a highly rated young leader who has captained state and national representative teams on a number of occasions.
The Sixers won the toss and sent Thunder out to bat first.
Stalenberg was the best with the bat, scoring a quickfire 35 from 24 deliveries, including five fours and one six, as Thunder posted a total of 145.
After Sam Bates opened the bowling, Lisa Griffith claimed the first wicket of Maddy Darke in the sixth over to see the Sixers drop to 1/39.
Griffith finished with 2/8 from two overs, while new recruit Kate Peterson claimed 2/24 from four over in her first hit out for Thunder.
Despite the efforts of Erin Burns (48 from 49), Thunder were able to restrict the Sixers 126 and emerge winners by 18 runs.
Sydney Thunder is set to open the first ever standalone WBBL season with a blockbuster Sydney Smash against crosstown rivals the Sydney Sixers at North Sydney Oval on Friday 18 October.
