When Sydney Thunder play the Sydney Sixers tomorrow night, they will take the field under lights for the first time since their WBBL|02 season opener against the Melbourne Stars.
Nicola Carey claimed three wickets that night at North Sydney Oval, including the key wicket of Meg Lanning. Carey looms as Thunder’s X-factor again with the cooler conditions having the potential to make her deliveries even more dangerous.
At night the wicket tends to be quicker, the ball swings more and the bright lights make fielding high-balls extra challenging.
Thunder trained under lights last night to prepare for the different conditions.
“I suppose it is a little bit different to what we are probably used to,” said Carey at training.
“I guess there is always a chance the ball can skid on a little bit more and fielding is quite different at night time with depth perception.
“I’m glad we got the opportunity to have a session under lights before we get out there on Saturday.
“I enjoy it (playing under lights), it’s something different and exciting. I get a sleep-in so I don’t mind that as well!”
Thunder take on the Sixers on Saturday 8 December at North Sydney Oval from 7:10PM AEDT. Secure your tickets HERE or watch live on 7mate, Fox Cricket or through the Cricket Australia Live App.
