The Thunder Leadership Program, which was delivered to 20 schools across western Sydney and regional New South Wales, uses a combination of practical cricket sessions and theory-based workshops to; develop leadership skills, improve self-confidence and instill a sense of community and purpose for the students.
The program runs across four weeks and features key leadership messages from Sydney Thunder players. Visits from Sydney Thunder players Belinda Vakarewa and Jason Sangha were a welcome addition to the last week of the program.
Sydney Thunder's BBL07 Thunder Foundation Scholarship Jason Sangha who captained Australia U19's at the recent World Cup in New Zealand was impressed with the engagement and attitude from participating students at Greystanes High School and Al Noori Muslim School.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time visiting both schools. It's fantastic to see young kids trying to engage in their respective communities. It reminds me times of when I was a young kid in school and trying to find my feet", said Sangha.
"Leadership is used in everyday life, from making decisions in normal life to going out and captaining your country. Everyone is their own leader and you create your own path".
