The Sydney Thunder Development XI have been narrowly defeated by Pakistan’s Lahore Qalandars by two runs in their first game of the Quin Series at Pratten Park in Ashfield.
Led by skipper Akhtar who scored 57 runs, the Lahore Qalandars set a solid total of 137/7. Sydney Thunder’s Cook and Green combined to dismiss Ali Hashmi and Akhtar, while Clarke, Green, Hatcher and Sammut all contributed with one wicket each.
After two early wickets, Gibson and Nair steadied the Sydney Thunder, scoring 52 and 30 runs respectively. However, some impressive bowling from Qalandars’ Rauf and Hussain saw several wickets fall late and the Thunder fell just two runs short of the target of 138.
Taking place from 5-9 November around Sydney, the Quin Series features Academy teams from the Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers, Hobart Hurricanes, Auckland Aces (New Zealand) and the Lahore Qalanders (Pakistan).
Sydney Thunder take on the Hobart Hurricanes at Blacktown International Sports Park on Tuesday 6 November at 3:00pm.
