Today’s fixture between Sydney Thunder and the Melbourne Stars is shaping up to be a massive clash as Thunder fight to keep its hopes of making finals alive.
Despite a run of six consecutive defeats, Thunder is still a chance to make its fourth Rebel Women’s Big Bash League finals appearance.
Here's what needs to happen:
- Thunder must win its final two games against the Stars and the Melbourne Renegades (1 December, Junction Oval)
- The Sixers and Renegades must drop all their remaining games
Led by skipper Rachael Haynes, Thunder bounced back from an opening round loss to the Sixers to win its next four matches, including an exciting victory over reigning champions the Brisbane Heat.
However, the last fortnight has seen the side drop six consecutive matches and fall to sixth on the ladder.
Despite a string of narrow losses, Thunder’s young stars have continued to impress.
Hannah Darlington starred in her side’s heart-breaking super over loss to the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday.
The 17-year-old finished with personal best figures of 3/29 from her four overs, including the big scalps of Sophie Devine and Bridget Patterson.
Darlington spoke to media ahead of today’s important clash against the Stars at Manuka Oval.
