The race is on for a spot in the top four with Sydney Thunder still a chance to make their second BBL finals appearance.
After consecutive losses, it appeared Thunder’s season was over however the Perth Scorchers’ unlikely victory over the Melbourne Stars has seen the club jump right back into the finals mix.
Here’s the current situation
With one game remaining, Thunder sit just outside the top four on the ladder with a win-loss record of 5-7-1.
Melbourne Stars are above Thunder with a win-loss record of 6-6 with two games remaining.
Brisbane Heat have the exact same win-loss record as Thunder (5-7-1) however sit in sixth place with a lower NRR.
Hobart Hurricanes (1st), Sydney Sixers (2nd) and Melbourne Renegades (3rd) have already secured their place in the semi-finals.
Stars, Thunder and Heat are all vying for the last spot.
Here’s what Thunder need to do
Thunder need to beat the Hobart Hurricanes at Manuka Oval on Saturday night to keep their finals dream alive – ideally by a large margin so the club maintains their NRR advantage over the Heat.
However other results still need to fall Thunder's way.
Here’s what else needs to happen
Friday 8 February: Heat vs Stars – Heat need to win
Heat need to win but only by a small margin to ensure Thunder stay ahead on the ladder.
Sunday 10 February: Stars vs Sixers – Sixers need to win
The Stars will secure a semi-final spot with victory in either of their two last games.
If everything else falls Thunder's way, it will come down to this game on Sunday afternoon.
Thunder return to Manuka Oval on Saturday 9 February to take on the Hurricanes.
