Sydney Thunder all-rounder Arjun Nair has set his sights on the Big Bash this summer after being ruled out of next month’s JLT One-Day Cup with a back injury.
The exciting 20-year-old spinner and attacking batsman will have a short break from the game before beginning his recovery program.
“Arjun has been diagnosed with a lumbar stress injury,” said Cricket NSW head physiotherapist Dan Redrup.
“He has been ruled out of JLT One-Day Cup and will begin building his loads though Premier Cricket as a batsman with an aim to play in the BBL later this year.”
Nair has played 14-games for Sydney Thunder taking 10-wickets and averaging 21 with the bat.
“It’s disappointing but a good learning curve for me going forward,” he said.
“After a rest I’ll begin rehab with an eye to batting next month in Premier Cricket and being fully fit to bowl for the Big Bash in December.”
Sydney Thunder Head Coach Shane Bond is looking forward to welcoming Nair into the squad for the season.
“Injuries that take you out of the game for an extended period of time can be tough,” said Sydney Thunder Head Coach Shane Bond.
“We’ve got no doubt that he will bounce back and this will build resilience in him. He’s an important member of our team and he’s going to play a hugely important role for us this season.”
Sydney Thunder will play at their opening BBL game against the Melbourne Stars on 21 December before facing cross-town rivals the Sydney Sixers on Christmas Eve at Spotless Stadium.
