Thunder return to winnings ways against Hurricanes

11 January 2020

Hales half-century laid foundation for strong win at home

Sydney Thunder has secured a four-wicket win over the Hobart Hurricanes in front of 11,454 fans at Sydney Showground Stadium.

The Hurricanes made a fast start through Matthew Wade and Caleb Jewell before Brendan Doggett struck in in the fifth over.

Daniel Sams extended his lead as the wearer of the BKT Golden Arm cap by taking a further two wickets to extend his season's tally to 17.

Chasing 163 to win, Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja gave Thunder the perfect start, smashing 66 runs from the first six overs.

Alex Ross showed his class at the end as he held strong as wickets fell around him to guide Thunder home with two balls to spare.

Thunder made two changes, with Brendan Doggett and debutant Liam Bowe coming into the side for Jonathan Cook and Nathan McAndrew. The Hurricanes named an unchanged side after their 5-wicket loss to the Brisbane Heat two days earlier.
