Three wickets to 19-year-old leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha took him to the top of the BBL|10 wicket takers list but Brisbane Heat were too good at the Gabba on Monday night.
The Heat made 5/175 in reply to 8/174. Sangha took 3-40 and was on a hat-trick starting the final over. He has 13 wickets in seven matches.
Sangha's three wickets included BBL star Chris Lynn (30), and English players Joe Denly (50) and Lewis Gregory, for a first ball duck.
Thunder remain second on the BBL|10 table behind the Sydney Sixers. It was Thunder's second loss of the season.
Joe Burns made 52 from 38 for the Heat. English opener Alex Hales hit another valuable 46 from 26 at the top of the order that set up the Thunder total.
Hales passed 200 runs for BBL|10 and now has 243 in seven matches. He was one of several contributors with the bat.
Daniel Sams hit 37 from 18 balls joining captain Callum Ferguson (35 off 34), Ben Cutting (24 off 15) and England wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings (22 off 16).
Billings hit his first two sixes in lime green.
