After losing the flip and being sent out to bat first, Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales made a fast start before Thunder lost four wickets in quick succession and fell to 5-110 after 15 overs.

However a solid innings from Alex Ross, who returned to the side after four matches on the outer, and a powerful cameo from Ben Cutting saw Thunder post a defendable total of 167.

Player of the Match Nathan McAndrew picked up the key wickets of Hurricanes openers D'Arcy Short and Ben McDermott in the fifth over to keep Thunder in the game early.

From then on, Thunder's spin attack dominated with Chris Green and Tanveer Sangha claiming two wickets each while Arjun Nair, playing his first game of the season, claimed one.
