Australia have recorded back to back victories over New Zealand to clinch the WT20 series with a final game still to be played.
Sydney Thunder’s Rachael Haynes was named player of the match in the first match to be broadcast on free to air by Channel 7, directly following the AFL Grand Final.
Haynes scored an unbeaten 69 from 50 balls as Australia beat the Kiwis by six wickets. New Zealand made 5-162 at North Sydney Oval with Leigh Kaserek and Sophie Devine both taking two wickets each.
The game was delivered the highest audience ever for women’s cricket with a peak metro and regional audience of 1.298 million viewers at an average of 888.000.
The second game, hosted at a sold out Allan Border Oval saw Megan Schutt take 3-15 while Healy and Villani both made half centuries. Thunder’s Rachael Haynes finished on 1 not out from the two balls she faced. Australia won by six wickets, chasing down New Zealand’s 8-145.
