Sydney Thunder has confirmed that Indian star Harmanpreet Kaur will be unavailable for their opening match of the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League against the Melbourne Renegades.
Kaur finished the recent ICC Women’s World T20 the second highest run scorer with 183-runs as India reached the semi-final before bowing out against England.
Sydney Thunder Head Coach Joanne Broadbent said while Kaur will be missed, it provides a good opportunity for a younger player to step up.
“We are obviously looking forward to Harmanpreet joining us for WBBL|04,” said Broadbent.
“We saw what she can do in the recent World Cup and she will add a lot to both our batting and bowling attack this season.
“We are confident in the depth of our squad and look at this as an opportunity for someone else to step into the mix.”
Thunder will confirm their 13-player squad to face the Melbourne Renegades on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s match at CitiPower Centre (1.50pm start). The match will be broadcast on 7mate and Fox Sports with radio coverage via ABC Grandstand.
