Chris Green

Spinning all-rounder continues to conquer T20 circuit

Sydney Thunder star Chris Green has joined the Birmingham Bears for the Vitality Blast following his role with Toronto Nationals in the Global T20 Canada, where he took 11 wickets in five games to finish as the tournament’s second leading wicket taker.

He joins the Bears as a replacement player for the injured Ashton Agar.

The spinning all-rounder has also played for the Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandar’s in the Pakistan Super League, as well as the Northern Warriors team which lifted the inaugural T10 trophy in the UAE in 2018.

Green is available for all seven remaining Vitality Blast group games before joining up with Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League.

Paul Farbrace, Sport Director, said: “We’re naturally delighted that we have been able to bring in a player of Chris’ talent and experience at such short notice.

“As an off-spinner, Chris is quite unique by having a lot of experience of bowling his overs at the top of the innings, in the powerplay. As a batsman, he also has the ability to clear the ropes, which will give our middle order more depth and firepower.

“We all look forward to welcoming him to Edgbaston as a Bear, and hopefully helping us reach the knockout stages.”

Chris Green said: “I am delighted to joining the Bears for their upcoming Vitality Blast matches and I am very grateful for the opportunity. It has been a busy few days finishing up my stint in Toronto at the GT20 and I am really looking forward to joining up with the players and coaches and hopeful I can put in a some good performances.”

Reigning Sydney Thunder Mike Hussey Medallist Callum Ferguson is also playing in the Vitality Blast for Worcestershire.

Sydney Thunder is set to open its ninth KFC Big Bash League campaign against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on 17 December, before playing its first game in Sydney on 2 January.

Memberships are on sale now, with flexible 2-Game Memberships starting from just $45 and Full Season Memberships available from $80.
