Sydney Thunder’s Matt Gilkes has been selected in the NSW Blues’ Sheffield Shield squad which will travel to Adelaide to play South Australia from Friday.
Gilkes, 20, is among three other possible debutants in the NSW Blues side. Fast bowler Liam Hatcher and bastman Daniel Solway are the other two players in contention.
On 30 September, Gilkes made his One-Day domestic debut for the Blues against Western Australia, and in his second match the left-hander showcased his dynamic ball-striking ability by smashing 82 from 51 balls against the same opponent.
In his only match for ACT/NSW Country this season, Gilkes made 147 and 72. His efforts saved his team from outright defeat against Tasmania.
Gilkes played two matches for the Thunder last season - making his debut against the Perth Scorchers in Perth.
On his debut, Gilkes and Thunder captain Callum Ferguson put together a 120-run partnership to help steer the side towards a 6-wicket victory.
Sydney Thunder is set to open its ninth KFC Big Bash League campaign against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on 17 December, before playing its first game in Sydney on 2 January.
