Leg-spinner joins Hurricanes for WBBL|05

Sydney Thunder leg-spinner Maisy Gibson has made the decision to seek further opportunities with the Hobart Hurricanes ahead of the upcoming stand-alone Rebel Women’s Big Bash League.

Gibson, 22, was part of the inaugural Thunder squad that won the WBBL|01 title and has played 39 matches for the team, taking 36 wickets at an average of 19.41.

The move to the Hurricanes coincides with Gibson making the move to Tasmania for the domestic 2019/20 Women’s National Cricket League season to join the Tasmanian Tigers.

“I would like to thank all the Thunder Nation supporters, players, coaches, support staff and everyone who has been involved Sydney Thunder during my time at the club,” said Gibson.

“Especially (Sydney Thunder Assistant Coach) Mark McInnes who played a big role in preparing me for T20 bowling.

“I’ve made some really strong friendships over the last four years and I’m looking forward to the challenge of coming up against Thunder this season.

“Taking what I know about how they play will be beneficial for me but they’re also probably the girls that know how to face me the best, so it’ll be a good competition.”
