The 2020-21 rebel Women’s Big Bash League and KFC Big Bash League fixtures have been announced, with both leagues to feature full schedules and more matches than ever before to be televised live by broadcasters Seven and Foxtel.
The WBBL|06 fixture builds on the tremendous success of the inaugural standalone season in 2019-20. A full 59-game fixture has been scheduled across October and November, with Sydney Thunder set to open its season on 17 October against the Scorchers in Perth.
A three-week, mid-season Sydney hub – which has been introduced to add flexibility to the fixture in the current COVID-19 climate – will see Thunder play eight games at home, including three fixtures at Blacktown International Sportspark.
Fans will be able to watch every WBBL|06 match live, with the 26 televised matches complemented by live streams of the remaining 33 matches on the CA Live app and cricket.com.au. All matches will be streamed on Kayo Sports.
In a further win for fans, the regular season of BBL|10 is scheduled to finish within the school holiday period and feature more prime time matches than ever before.
Sydney Thunder is set to open its campaign on 5 December against the Melbourne Stars at the MCG, with the season scheduled to be brought forward following extensive consultation with fans, clubs, broadcasters and other stakeholders.
Fixture highlights include the highly anticipated Sydney Smash derbies against the Sydney Sixers on 9 January (Sydney Showground Stadium) and 25 January (SCG), plus a return to Canberra’s Manuka Oval for two blockbuster clashes.
Thunder captain Callum Ferguson hopes the announcement will go some way towards lifting the spirits of cricket fans after what has been a challenging year.
“It makes the next few months a little bit more exciting,” said Ferguson.
“We’ve been training for a while with our home states but not really knowing what the summer will look like. I can’t wait to get back into it with the Thunder guys and continue the momentum we had at the end of last season.
“I hope that the fans will be looking forward to the season as much as we are. It’s been a really tough time for a lot of people so hopefully it gives our fans something to look forward to and get excited about.”
Fans will be able to watch every BBL|10 match live on Fox Cricket and Kayo Sports, with Seven to televise 45 matches.
