Sydney Thunder has named its travelling squad to Albury-Wodonga for their KFC Practice Match against the Melbourne Stars, which includes right arm quick Andrew Fekete who has joined the club for the upcoming season.
Fekete has had previous spells in the KFC Big Bash League with the Brisbane Heat and the Melbourne Renegades and fills the final spot in the club’s playing list for the season.
“I am at a place in my career now where I’m confident in my ability and I know what skills to use and when. Hopefully this will benefit the Thunder,” said Andrew Fekete.
“Looking at the squad, there is some real quality there as well as experience so hopefully we can go deep into the finals.
“On a personal level I want to contribute as much as possible in whatever capacity I can, whether that be on or off the field.”
Fekete, who was called into the Australian Test squad in 2015 is joined in the 15-player squad by new signings Callum Ferguson and New Zealand international Mitch McClenaghan, while Shane Watson is fit following a minor hamstring injury that kept him out of the Bangladesh Premier League.
“The Albury trip comes early in our pre-season so it’s a time to get the team together,” said Head Coach Paddy Upton.
“Thunder is all about taking the game out to our fans in Western Sydney and beyond. It’s great to get the brand the team and give other people some exposure to the Thunder.
“It’s great to be on tour together and hang out on and off the field.”
Sydney Thunder’s men’s and women’s squads will head to Albury-Wodonga on Monday where players will take part in a Family Fun Day in conjunction with the Melbourne Stars at Kelly Park in Wodonga (4pm-6.30pm) on Monday before a double header the following day.
Alex Blackwell’s side will play their third game of the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League against the Melbourne Stars at Lavington Sports Ground (2pm start) before the men’s side play a KFC Practice Match also against the Melbourne Stars (6.30pm start).
