Sydney Thunder has named two 13-player squads for the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League and KFC Big Bash League fixtures at the SCG tomorrow.
Belinda Vakarewa has recovered from a low-grade muscle strain in her upper arm which saw her miss the Thunder’s last two WBBL matches against the Perth Scorchers, she replaces Hannah Darlington in the squad.
“She has worked really hard while we were away in Perth to get herself right and ready for this game. She’s passed everything we wanted her to do.” said Sydney Thunder WBBL Coach Joanne Broadbent.
This game will also be Harmanpreet Kaur’s last game in lime and green as she heads to Dubai to join up with the Indian national side.
“I’m really hoping that she gets an opportunity against the Sixers in her final game just to see what she can bring to our squad.” said Broadbent.
“We knew we only had her for the nine games but we haven’t had to use her to much this season which is a testament to how well our top order has been performing.
“She’s a really important part of our team and we are obviously going to miss her skills in all areas, with the bat, ball and her fielding.”
Sydney Thunder are currently sitting on top of the Rebel Women’s Big Bash Ladder with six wins and two losses under their belt.
The club’s 13-player squad for the KFC Big Bash League fixture which starts at 7.20pm includes England opener James Vince.
Vince remains in the squad after missing last night’s win against the Perth Scorchers duo to illness.
“Sixers have got a lot of pride, especially playing against the Thunder,” said Sydney Thunder Captain Shane Watson.
“We played very well against them in the first game and we’ve had some good success here at the SCG in the last couple of years I have played here.
“The Sixers are going to be extremely hungry to be able to get some momentum going in their tournament so we are going to have to be at our best.
“There is a huge rivalry there, we know that of the Sydney franchises they are the glamour side, we love the position we sit in as well where we can come up underneath them and show them the skills we have.”
