13,494 meals already provided for those in need

Sydney Thunder players will be wearing a specially designed playing shirt for Tuesday’s Rebel Women’s Big Bash League and KFC Big Bash League games at Spotless to raise awareness for the club’s growing work within the community.

HELP US PROVIDE MEALS TO THOSE IN NEED

Sydney Thunder pride themselves on making a significant difference to the community and have led a number of successful local initiatives including the Thunder Nation Cup, Thunder Leadership Program and the Mazda Thunder Bus.

This season the club has partnered with OzHarvest with the aim to provide 10,000 meals to those in need within the Thunder Nation, with the club already raising enough funds to provide 13,494 with four BBL home games remaining.

“I think it’s really important that we give back to the families and communities who support us,” said Naomi Stalenberg.

“I think everyone can appreciate all the work that we are doing both on and off the field and we aspire to continue to work hard to be a giving club.

“For me personally, coming from just a local family from Western Sydney it’s something I hold really close to my heart."

The thumbprint design is reflective of Sydney Thunder’s commitment to leave a mark on the community, acknowledging that people from many different backgrounds and cultures make up the Thunder Nation.

“The crowd support we’ve always had through the Thunder Nation has always been amazing," said Shane Watson.

"Both at Spotless and Canberra, but Spotless being our main home ground we always get amazing support and it’s always nearly a sell out and I’m sure we’ll draw another big crowd out there tomorrow.

"Any team that’s got Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn as a starting point is always going to be incredibly dangerous. So we are going to have to be at our best and match up as best we possibly can because they certainly know how to put our bowling group under pressure.”

Each member of the club’s BBL and WBBL squads will sign their playing shirt to be auctioned with the money raised going towards raising more meals. A limited number of replica shirts will also be on sale online and at the ground.

The BBL game will be last featuring Jos Buttler and Joe Root before they are replaced by Anton Devcich and Chris Jordan.
