Thunder captain knows it will be a tough match in Perth

The Thunder WBBl squad have landed in Perth and had their first training session in preparation for the semi-final against the Scorchers. Captain Alex Blackwell is delighted with the depth of her squad,

“I think that depth has really played a part, we’ve not had players that have dominated the competition but we’ve had contributions throughout the whole order and also with the bowling attack so I’m very confident with the options I have there.”

The Thunder come into the match on the back of a close win against the Heat. The result would not have altered the final league position, however Blackwell believes it was important to come into the finals on a win,

“It was huge for the belief amongst the group, that whatever happens we can defend a total or restrict a team to a minimal total, it was an awesome performance in the field and with the ball. Disappointing with the bat, but we have played on a number of new wickets recently which is good preparation for us as we have another new wicket here.”

Perth finished 4 points behind the Thunder but Blackwell believes that will be a tough side to come up against,

“They’re a professional, well drilled side, Villani has done a great job leading the side but they have many leaders amongst them. We have had two close games against them already this season and we come into the semi the higher ranked team but it all comes down to whoever performs better on the day.”
