Sydney Thunder has re-signed 19 year old Belinda Vakarewa for another two seasons in the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League.
The young quick has been with the Thunder since the inaugural WBBL01 season.
“I’m very excited to be back with the Sydney Thunder for 03,” said Vakarewa.
“I love how exciting it is (Big Bash), how much faster it is and how much skill there is in the women’s game even in such a quick format.”
“I suppose the main goal for the season would be to win the competition and bring back the trophy.”
“The thing I like most about being with the Thunder is just the vibe in the group that we have, everyone gets on really well and it’s always a laugh.”
The right-armer has been playing for the NSW Breakers in the WNCL, and was also selected in the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes squad after the ODI leg of the multi-format series, and recently played for the ACT Invitational XI in a three-day tour match against the Australian Women.
“To be able to play a three day game was very different but also very fun and it was really enjoyable to be around a great bunch of ladies.”
Sydney Thunder General Manager Lee Germon is looking forward to see Vakarewa continue to develop her game.
"She is one of the most exciting talents in Australia and I'm obviously thrilled she has decided to commit for a further two years," Germon said.
"She brings some real explosiveness with the white ball and is a superb athlete."
Sydney Thunder open their WBBL|03 campaign against the Melbourne Renegades on 9 December at North Sydney Oval.
