Bangladesh team selected for HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup

26 September 2019

Community trials held at Bankstown Oval

Trials have been held for the Bangladesh community to select a team to contest this year’s HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup.

The HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup is run to connect people with their community and celebrate culture through cricket.

Asif Anik, who played for Bangladesh in last season’s competition, understands the importance of representing his community.

“Bangladesh is a cricket crazy country and any opportunity to represent my country, especially abroad, is a dream come true and a big responsibility as well,” Anik said.

Beyond the boundary, cricket has provided many people like Asif with an opportunity to engage with their local community and highlights the importance of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup in promoting social cohesion.

“Cricket is the best way for us to make new friends and meet new people while staying fit and enjoying competitive sports,” Anik said.

“The HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup allows us to meet and play with cricket-loving people from various races and countries, it’s a very colourful event that encourages inclusion.

“I have stayed in touch with people I have played in last year’s competition and it’s great to see them outside the playing field as well in many parts of Sydney.”

The selected team will represent the Bangladesh community at the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup Finals Day on Sunday 3 November 2019.
