Fawad Ahmed has made the decision to seek further opportunities with the Perth Scorchers ahead of the upcoming KFC Big Bash League.
The experienced leg-spinner was part of the Sydney Thunder squad that won the BBL|05 title and has played 42 games for the club, taking 40 wickets at an average of 25.45.
Head Coach Shane Bond thanked Ahmed for his contribution to the club.
“Fawad’s obviously an outstanding bowler but he was also a real character around the team and a very popular member of our group,” Bond said.
“He’s a very experienced veteran and was a really good contributor off the field, especially amongst the spin bowling group and with helping our younger players develop their bowling.
“It’s disappointing but it’s the nature of the game, there’s always going to be movement amongst clubs.
“We’re disappointed to lose an experienced and valued member of our team, but we respect his decision and wish him all the best.”
Ahmed thanked the Thunder Nation for their support over the last four seasons.
“It has been a great experience, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Sydney is a great city and I have had an amazing time,” Ahmed said.
“I have made some great friends who will be my friends forever and I look forward to keeping in touch and crossing paths in the future.
“I would like to really thank the fans. For all four years they were really behind me and the club, even during some tough times.
“I would also like to thank the management, coaches, staff and trainers. They looked after me really nicely and I had an amazing time – you can tell by the way I performed well over the last four years.
“Our team bond was amazing and I’m going to really miss that but hopefully I will see everyone during the season and I wish all the best to the club for the future.”
