Dirk Nannes was the standout performer for the Sydney Thunder in BBL|02, claiming the team’s Player of the Tournament award with 11 wickets from eight matches, with best figures of 4-17. His experience was crucial for the young bowling line-up, and his wisdom and knowledge will be just as important as the Thunder look to make big strides in BBL|03.
There isn’t a lot that Dirk hasn’t achieved in T20 cricket. He’s won National titles with Victoria, opened the bowling for Australia and even played a role in the Netherland’s victory over England at the 2009 World T20 in London.
To say that he is well-travelled is an understatement, with the teams he has represented including Canterbury, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Lions, Melbourne Renegades, Middlesex, Mountaineers, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Surrey, Sylhet Royals and Victoria.
Dirk’s life could have been so different with his first passion being skiing. He represented Australia at a number of World Cups and came close to qualifying for the Winter Olympics in the late 1990s.
