In the second game of their Quadrangular Series campaign the Thunder Academy faced the Hobart Hurricanes Academy at the Blacktown International SportsPark with the squad boosted with several players who have had Big Bash experience.
Param Uppal, Jay Lenton, Gurinder Sandhu and Liam Hatcher all came into the squad that also won a practice game against the Lahore Qalandars earlier in the week.
Winning the toss and batting first Jordan Gauci continued his fine form from the first game making an unbeaten 77 from 61 balls, hitting five 4s and three 6s.
His opening partner Josh Clarke fell for seven to Nick Buchanan who bowled three overs finishing with 1-18.
Guaci was supported by Param Uppal who played for the Cricket Australia XI in the recent JLT One Day Cup. He made 21 in a 66-run partnership before he was caught by Boyce from the bowling of Willis.
Ben Rohrere then made an impressive 34 from 18 balls which included one of the biggest sixes of the day, before captain Chris Green made 12 from 8 in a brief cameo.
Jay Lenton finished on 1* while Gauci batted his way through the innings as Thunder finished 4-161.
The Hurricanes made a nervous start with Charlie Wakim falling for 2 while fellow opener Jewell was out without scoring from the first ball he faced, with Green and McAndrew taking the wickets.
With the Hurricanes 5-95 in the 13th over, Cameron Boyce showed his experience and skill making a 17 ball 27 which included three maximums, he was caught by Chris Green from Scott Copperfield’s bowling with the scores at 6-141.
Willis was the star of the show from for the Hurricanes making 59 from 39 balls before being trapped lbw by Chris Green.
With the Hurricanes needing 12 to win from the final four balls, Summers hit a big six, but eventually finished one run short of Thunder’s innings on 9/160.
Chris Green was the pick of the Thunder bowlers with 4 for 15, while Scott Copperfield took 2 for 26 and Sandhu took 1 for 36.
Thunder continue their tournament against the Lahore Qalandars on Tuesday at 11am at Blacktown International Sports Park.
