Sydney Thunder has extended the contract of Nicola Carey for a further two seasons of the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League.
All-rounder Carey has scored 232-runs and taken 30-wickets for the club, playing in every game of the past two seasons.
“I really enjoyed playing for the Thunder, I was happy to sign on for two years,” said Nicola Carey.
“I’m looking forward to a really good year and hopefully we can get some wins on the board."
The 24-year old was the leading wicket-taker for Sydney Thunder last season and is looking to once again play a role with the ball.
“I’d love to hit some sixes but I think my main job for Thunder will be with the ball.
“We’ve got a lot of good batters, all of our internationals are good batters and then we’ve got Alex Blackwell and Rachael Haynes. I don’t think I’ll get much of a hit this year.”
Thunder will play just four games in Sydney this season with their remaining fixtures taking place either regionally or interstate, which Carey believes will help the side during the competition.
“I enjoy it, I think we play our best cricket on the road,” said Carey.
“When you’re away you are always around the group and it’s a lot of fun. In our first year we travelled a lot and we won the competition. I’m really really excited about it.”
Sydney Thunder General Manager Lee Germon believes Carey will continue to be an important part of the side.
"Nicola signing for two years gives the squad another very high quality all-rounder,” said Sydney Thunder General Manager Lee Germon.
"She has worked exceptionally hard in the pre-season and had a very good match against the touring England side recently. I expect Nicola to play a key leadership role with both bat and ball and know she will contribute significantly to a squad that has a mix of experience and youth."
