Sydney Thunder’s hopes of qualifying for the finals of WBBL02 took a huge blow when they suffered a six wicket loss to the Hobart Hurricanes in Hobart this evening.
Thunder batted first and suffered and early loss with Taylor being caught behind for 1. Fellow opener Rachael Haynes made an impressive 36 from 32 balls, joined by Thunder skipper Alex Blackwell who once again starred with the bat making 49 from 50 balls.
Thunder then lost a flurry of wickets, going from 3-80 to 9-115 with New Zealand international Amy Satterthwaite taking a hat-trick to remove bowl Stalenberg for 5 before then getting the wickets of Rene Farrell and Lauren Cheatle for ducks.
Set 116 to win, Hurricanes opener Erin Burns was able to make 38 before Heather Knight finished unbeaten on 34 from 29 balls.
Thunder did exert some pressure during the middle overs with Erin Osborne (1-18), Stafanie Taylor (0-17) and Harmanpreet Kaur (2-18) slowing the run rate down as well as Alex Blackwell and Stafanie Taylor combing to run out Satterthwaite.
Thunder travel to Perth where they face the Scorchers at Lilac Hill on Friday and Saturday, Thunder need to win both games and hope results go their way in order to make the finals.
