Thunder name squad ahead of season opener

Sydney Thunder has named a 13-player squad for their opening game of the KFC Big Bash League against the Sydney Sixers at Spotless Stadium on 19 December (7.45pm start).

“We love playing the Sixers, to be able to try and get one up on them at the start of the campaign is a hell of a lot of motivation leading into the season for sure,” said Sydney Thunder captain Shane Watson.

“My game is ready to go and I’m excited to get out there and showcase my skills to help the team. I’ve had a much better run in to the start of this tournament.

“The awesome thing about the BBL now is that the teams are so well matched up, there’s no real holes in any team now. The talent pool in Australian cricket is so strong.

“We want to make sure we are able to create a fortress at Spotless and start off really strong to be able to really get some home advantage.”

New signings Jos Buttler, Mitch McClenaghan, Callum Ferguson and Andrew Fekete have all been included in the squad as well as Nathan McAndrew who joined the squad over the weekend as a Local Replacement Player for Pat Cummins, who is unavailable due to national commitments.
