Alex Blackwell finishes unbeaten as Australia beat New Zealand

Australia continued their strong start to the ICC Women’s World Cup with a 5-wicket win over rivals New Zealand in Bristol.

Chasing 220 to win, Thunder captain Alex Blackwell finished unbeaten with 36.

The defending champions had eight balls to spare in their run chase, after they had restricted New Zealand to 9-219 with Megan Schutt and Jess Jonassen both taking three wickets each.

In the second game of the evening, England beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets with 118-balls remains. Laura Marsh took 4-45 while Heather Knight 82) and Sarah Taylor (74*) making the runs.

Thunder stars will be action on 5 July and 6 July when Harmanpreet Kaur’s India take on Sri Lanka in Derby and Stafanie Taylor’s West Indies face New Zealand in Taunton.
